“Karl Boyes loaded with Tapeta™ Horses”
This year’s Karl Boyes Memorial brings a field that is loaded with horses that love this surface.
Dazzled Saint, Less Than Perfect, Choctaw Chuck, Stormofthecentury, and the youngster Balandeen (3yo) have all won stakes at this oval. Stevis Man, Alpha Slew, Rapid Dan, and Copperplate have all made careers on this oval. Any one of these horses will have a say in this year’s edition!
Favoritism will go to the youngster Balandeen who is coming off an impressive performance in The Tom Ridge Stakes (May 22) in which he won on his first try on the Tapeta™ against 3 year olds. Last year’s champ Stormofthecentury will be back to defend his crown but this will be his 1st start of the year. Choctaw Chuck will have the services of Jockey Jose Ortiz who is coming off his Belmont Victory. Chuck is always around and might have needed his last race as he got tired in his first start of the year. Alpha Slew, Rapid Dan, and Cautious Giant should see some support through the windows.
The horse that could be the winner is the of the race is the John Bourke trained Stevis Man. Stevis Man won the “Prep” for The Karl Boyes. He seems to be getting better with age as he has been working brilliantly for this race. Hopefully he can draw in as he was excluded due to the conditions of the race. Bucchero, Mayor Mac and Copperplate are the shippers who can win a piece of the $100,000 purse.
The Karl Boyes is slated for the 6th race Monday, June 19, Post time is 7:30p.m.
