Chuck Wins Karl Boyes
Fan favorite Choctaw Chuck overcame a slow start, but with an eye catching stretch run got up to win this years’ Karl Boyes Memorial Northwestern PA Stakes for Colts & Geldings, for 3 year olds and up.
The Kevin Rice trained Choctaw Chuck showed a new dimension as he overcame a slow start which put him way back off the pace. Under the patient ride of “Super” Mario Pino, Chuck found himself in an unusual position of being last after the first eighth of a mile. Mr. Pino showed his experience by not panicking. He got Chuck to relax and then allowing the Dark-Bay son of Bwana Charlie by Taylor’s Choice to show his tremendous turn of foot, running by his foes like they were tied to a pole. Chucks last to first winning margin was a widening length, making his second stake win look easy.
Tim Glyshaw’s Bucchero was second followed by Susan Anderson’s Copperplate. Winning time was 102.82. The $60,000 1st prize raised Chuck’s lifetime earnings to $362,000. Chuck is owned by Kevin’s Grandma Jean Rice.
